All of a sudden, a great idea seems to hit you out of nowhere. You take some time to ponder on the idea, and the more you think about it, the more the idea seems to flesh itself out. You’re excited and you’re confident that your idea will be a huge success! However, there are three questions that seem to haunt you:
- How do I get started?
- When do I get started?
- Where do I begin?
Once the questions start arising, you are in the genesis of a learning curve. This is the space between the idea and the initial production of that idea; this space is called decision. This is when you have to decide if you are going to execute the idea or not. This is also the space in which logic and faith go to war and, of course, the winner takes all. If logic wins, you will remain in the reality that you’ve grown accustomed to; this is your comfort zone and the place that provides you with a false sense of security. If faith wins, you will completely defy logic, and not only will you question your sanity, the people around you may begin to question your sanity. This is to say that the first step in getting started is making the decision to start. The second step is planning. Please note that you shouldn’t allow your plans to remain in the idea phase. You have to publish them somewhere. In other words, write the vision and make it plain. Thirdly, you have to count the costs. This is the step that most people try to skip, and this is the step that causes quite a deal of setbacks. For example, let’s say that you’ve written a book. You would need to know how much it would cost you to publish that book. And don’t just publish it, publish it in excellence! The best route to take is to count the costs before you build, but if you waited until you were finished writing the book, that’s completely okay. So, you’d reach out to a publisher (shameless plug: Visiiion) and you’d look at the publisher’s packages. You’d also request a quote for editing. Please note that if you have not finished writing your book, your editor won’t be able to give you a quote since book editing prices are determined by two factors:
- Word count
- Editing complexity
